Support for the prevention of certain animal diseases is available again
From January 1, 2023, the support program for the prevention and control of certain animal diseases, financed from the national budget and helping the livestock sectors, will be available again with renewed content. The basic purpose of this is to help protect against animal diseases and preserve the favorable health status of domestic livestock.

Livestock keepers participating in the relaunched support program can apply for support after invoices issued for services performed after January 1, 2023. The amendment of the decree known as “No. 148” allows for a more targeted and specific use of resources, in line with the latest scientific knowledge and today’s animal health challenges and expectations. Following a professional review of the previous support goals, some animal diseases, which are no longer justified, were deleted or modified, which made it possible to reallocate resources in a targeted manner. Furthermore, from a cost-effectiveness point of view, samplings suitable for the screening of several diseases in the same animal species were combined.
The amended legislation also aims to support the conduct of tests for protection against antimicrobial resistance, one of the most significant health issues of our time.
Based on the new legal title, livestock keepers operating small livestock farms can apply for the subsidy in order to treat their herds with targeted antibiotics. According to the amended decree, in order to ensure the most important animal health measures, the subsidy amounts for some services have been increased. The support and its changes can significantly contribute to making the control of animal diseases more effective. Details about the application are available on the website of the Hungarian State Treasury.
