Another record: sales neared 3.4 billion forints at the end of 2015
In November-December 2015 seasonal sweets were sold in retail for a record-breaking HUF 3.4 billion. 655 tons of seasonal confectionery products were sold and like-for-like value sales rose 7 percent. Almost 432 tons of chocolate Santa figures – 3 percent more than in the base period – were sold in the value of more than HUF 2 billion (value sales were up 8 percent). Chocolate Santa figures’ share from total seasonal sweets sales was 63 percent – 1 percentage more than a year earlier.
People still prefer large stores when it comes to buying confectionery products for the winter holidays. Stores with a floor space above 2,500m² realised 52 percent of sales last year. However, this proportion used to be 55 percent in 2014. The market share of 200m² and smaller shops grew from 10 percent to 12 percent. 401-2,500m² stores’ share from value sales was up 1 percentage point at 31 percent.
