Rewe tests new Pick&Go stores in Germany
Rewe plans to open three more Pick&Go stores in 2024 – this time in Hamburg and Düsseldorf. The company has already opened three such stores in Germany this year.
Rewe is testing autonomous shopping with its new stores, where Trigo Vision sensor technology digitally manages the checkout process. Trigo creates a 3D model of a store, digitally representing the environment and movements within it. The retailer guarantees that “images of shoppers are captured and processed in a data-safe manner and are used solely for the purpose of enabling in-store checkout”.
According to Rewe, the concept is already working and is becoming increasingly popular with customers. Accordingly, two new cashierless stores will open in Hamburg in the coming weeks, one of which will measure 1,200 square metres, making it Rewe’s largest Pick & Go store to date. The third test-store will open in Düsseldorf. The exact location of the new stores has not yet been disclosed by the retailer.
The retailer has two hybrid stores in Cologne and Berlin, while in Munich, a fully autonomous store awaits customers. To shop in-store, customers only need the Rewe Pick&Go app.
