Another boost in the Hungarian wine industry
In order for the Hungarian wine industry to strengthen its competitiveness and the recognition of Hungarian wine, new developments and innovations are always needed, said Minister of Agriculture István Nagy on Friday in Pannonhalma, at the handover of the new wine processing plant of TóthBorbirtok.
The head of the ministry emphasized that the Hungarian government and the Ministry of Agriculture are still partners of the viticulture and winemaking society. In the current support period of the Common Agricultural Policy, more than 100 million euros are available to the sector, including for winemaking investments and innovation. The goal is for wineries to become even more competitive with technological developments and modernization, the minister explained.
The head of the department reminded that the solution to the challenges of the age is development, and the added value must be increased in order to be competitive. The Hungarian government provides all the support for this, as HUF 2,900 billion is available for the development of agriculture until 2027 thanks to the 80% national co-financing.
István Nagy added that the success of Hungarian wine is in our common interest. It is not only an economic issue, but also a nation-building force. TóthBorbirtok, which planted the first grapes on the hills of Pannonhalma ten years ago, joins this nation-building force. The wine industry has since achieved international success: TóthBorbirtok’s 2021 Kódex Furmint was chosen as the best Hungarian white wine at the London wine competition. The opening of the new wine processing plant is another milestone that ensures the future growth of the wine industry and the production of premium wines and champagnes, explained the minister.
