Auchan Romania Rolls Out Bulk Collection For Deposit Return System
Auchan Romania has introduced a new bulk collection system at its Militari hypermarket in Bucharest, as it seeks to enhance its commitment to the national deposit return system (SGR).
The system, supplied by Tomra, allows customers to deposit unsorted PET, aluminium and glass beverage containers marked with the SGR logo, without requiring prior separation by the customers themselves, ESM reports.
The machine automatically identifies and counts the containers, issuing a ticket for the ROM 0.50 deposit refund per item.
The new system has received positive feedback from both Auchan Militari customers and store employees, according to the retailer.
It builds up on Auchan’s early adoption of the SGR initiatives, ahead of the launch of the national programme, including the operation of over 140 recycling points in cities like Bucharest, Timișoara, Cluj and Constanța.
Payment Infrastructure
Elsewhere, Auchan Romania has rolled out a new integrated payment infrastructure, designed to improve the customer experience across its hypermarkets, supermarkets, and convenience stores.
Built on a modern payment management platform provided by Payten, the solution routes transactions to Romanian banks, optimising cash flow and offering customers a fast, secure and unified payment experience across various methods, including cards, mobile wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay) and QR code payments.
The solution has been initially deployed in 55 outlets, with plans to extend it to the rest of the network.
Mihaela Bucur, Auchan Romania’s financial director, commented, “This partnership reflects Auchan’s ongoing commitment to integrating new technologies to streamline internal processes, while ensuring a more efficient and enjoyable shopping experience.”
Auchan Romania operates a network of over 460 stores, encompassing 26 hypermarkets, eight ATAC Hiper Discount hypermarkets, nine supermarkets, an Auchan Go smart store, nearly 400 MyAuchan convenience stores (mostly at Petrom stations), 24 Simply by Auchan franchise stores, and the Auchan.ro online store.
