Air Wick, Calgon and Cillit Bang will also have a new owner
Dettol owner Reckitt Benckiser has announced that it will restructure its portfolio and sell several brands in its home care and nutrition divisions. The aim of the move is to allow the company to focus its resources on its “high growth and high revenue” products. The FMCG giant plans to divest popular household brands such as Air Wick, Calgon and Cillit Bang by the end of 2025, Grocery Gazette reported.
The brands to be sold achieved a total of £1.9 billion in net sales in 2023. In addition, the company plans to sell several baby formula brands, although no exact date has been set yet. Reckitt Benckiser’s aim with the reorganization is to strengthen its position in the consumer health and hygiene market.
Earlier this year, Reckitt’s shares suffered a major slump after a US court awarded £47.1m in damages to a mother whose child died after consuming Enfamil formula. This judgment may set a precedent for other similar lawsuits.
The company intends to focus on brands with high growth potential such as Strepsils, Gaviscon, Nurofen, Lysol, Dettol, Finish, Vanish, Durex and Veet. These brands have a significant market share and the company believes their future growth is assured.
Reckitt published its 2024 half-year results today. Operating profit fell 4.9% to £1.7bn despite net sales rising 0.8%. The results were also affected by a tornado that caused significant damage to an American warehouse storing Enfamil products.
