New nutrition guide for preschoolers: Introducing the CHILDREN’S SMART PLATE®
The National Association of Hungarian Dietitians (MDOSZ) has developed a supplemental nutrition guide for 4-6 year olds. The purpose of the new CHILDREN’S OKOSTÁNYÉR® is to promote the development of good eating habits in even the smallest children, as well as to help families with small children in preparing their daily diet.
According to the guidelines, half of children’s daily meals should be vegetables and fruits, while the rest should be cereals, meat, fish, eggs, and milk and milk products. In addition, special attention was paid to adequate fluid intake, which should be at least 8 glasses, of which 5 glasses should be drinking water.
Gyerek OKOSTÁNYÉR® not only draws attention to the observance of the correct proportions, but also to the fact that children’s eating habits should be developed at an early age. Adequate nutrition fundamentally affects children’s physical and cognitive development, as well as their later health status.
As part of the nutritional recommendation, the MDOSZ has prepared an energy requirement calculator and food dosage guide, which are available at www.okostanyer.hu. This helps parents to accurately determine the required daily energy intake for their child, taking into account the child’s gender, age and activity level.
The new guide also offers practical tips for parents on how to introduce healthy eating habits into everyday life. Experts recommend that children be involved in the process of food preparation, which not only promotes the acceptance of food, but also expands their knowledge about nutrition.
