A new hotel brand appeared with the opening of the W Budapest Hotel
A new hotel brand appeared in Hungary after QPR Properties opened its 151-room luxury hotel, the W Budapest Hotel, in the Drechsler Palace on Andrássy út in Budapest.
The transformation of the historic building, which once housed the State Ballet Institute, into a hotel was completed in two and a half years by the integrated architecture and construction service provider DVM Group, the contractor DVM Group told MTI. The hotel is operated by W Hotels, a member of Marriott International.
The Drechsler Palace was built between 1883 and 1886 in the French Renaissance and Neo-Gothic style based on the designs of Ödön Lechner and Gyula Pártos. During its 135-year history, the protected monument on the UNESCO World Heritage site has played a number of roles, from institutional and residential functions to hospitality industry use and a prominent cultural role. The palace has been completely abandoned for the past two decades, they wrote.
The palace, which was in extremely poor condition, was renovated by DVM group (Hungary) as the general contractor of the project. Heritage protection and monument restoration were complemented by significant mechanical and electrical renewal, which affected all rooms of the 16,000 square meter property. The contractor also had to prepare the building for the technical requirements of the five-star hotel, they informed.
