Picnic joins forces with Intermarché in France
In France, Dutch online supermarket Picnic is swapping its current partner Coopérative U for Intermarché, the supermarket chain that is affiliated to the same buying alliance, Everest.
Picnic’s French hubs will soon be delivered from Intermarché’s distribution centres, French trade magazine LSA knows. That the Musketeers won the contract seems a logical consequence of the fact that, like Picnic, they have been members of the international retail alliance Everest since September last year. That buying organisation then put the much smaller Coopérative U out of the door to bring on board Aura Retail, the alliance of French supermarket groups Auchan, Casino and Intermarché.
Intermarché is already the third retail partner for Picnic, which launched in northern France in 2021 with Cora by its side. That hypermarket chain has since been swallowed up by Carrefour. In France, Picnic is currently conducting an offensive in the densely populated Ile-de-France region. By the end of this year, the online supermarket aims to offer its home delivery service throughout the Paris region, including the capital itself.
