Hungarian-Bavarian agricultural relations at the threshold of a new beginning
It is very instructive that we were able to agree on almost all issues. We must seek cooperation and how we can jointly provide effective responses to the emerging challenges – said István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, after his meeting with the Minister of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism of the province and the President of the Bavarian Farmers’ Association in Munich.

István Nagy first discussed possible cooperation with Bavarian Minister Michaela Kaniber. The ministers agreed that the Common Agricultural Policy should be maintained as an independent instrument based on two separate pillars after 2027, and that the bureaucratic support structure should be reduced as much as possible in the interest of farmers.
There are many points of agreement between Hungary and Bavaria, such as the special support for small farms or in the field of forestry policy
István Nagy highlighted that not only bilateral but also regional cooperation is necessary on many issues, since the states neighboring Bavaria and Hungary are also facing similar challenges, to which truly effective responses can be provided together. The Minister of Agriculture held talks with Günther Felßner, President of the Bavarian Farmers’ Association, during a working lunch. The meeting also discussed the fact that Hungary will lift the epidemiological restrictions from May 15, so that Hungarian products can again reach Europe, including Bavaria, without obstacles. István Nagy drew attention to the fact that it is of paramount importance that a separate and adequately sized budget for agriculture is maintained during the next EU term. Both the Hungarian and Bavarian sides agreed that the Common Agricultural Policy should be farmer-centric and that the already ambitious sustainability goals should not be further increased in the interests of European food security.
