The foundation stone of a new bread factory was laid in Tata
Ceres ZRt., a leading player in Hungary’s bakery sector and a subsidiary of the Czech Penam Group, has announced a significant new investment: the construction of a high‑capacity toast bread factory in the Tata Industrial Park. The HUF 24.6 billion project, co‑funded by the Government of Hungary and the European Union, is set to become one of Central and Eastern Europe’s most advanced facilities of its kind.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Minister of Agriculture Dr. István Nagy and Dr. Boglárka Illés, State Secretary for Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Ceres ZRt., with more than 70 years of industry experience, currently operates two production sites in Győr and Miskolc. The company decided in 2024 to expand its capacity with a new, state‑of‑the‑art plant. The government and the EU are supporting the development with HUF 4.2 billion in funding.
Recognized as a project of national economic importance, the investment is backed by a strategic cooperation agreement between the company and the Hungarian State. The new 14,000‑square‑meter facility will be capable of producing nearly 100 tons of toast bread per day, strengthening domestic supply, boosting regional export potential, and creating new jobs in the area.
The factory will feature highly automated production, packaging, and logistics systems, including robotics and AI‑supported technologies. Sustainability is also a key focus, with energy‑efficient solutions and the use of renewable energy sources integrated into the design.
“The investment in Tata marks a milestone in the history of Ceres. We are implementing a technological leap that will strengthen our company’s domestic and international position in the long term. We are convinced that the new plant in Tata will become a facility of regional significance within the Central and Eastern European market”
said corporate director István Mikos.
Minister Dr. István Nagy emphasized that :
“The investment in Tata clearly demonstrates that the Hungarian food industry is capable of applying state‑of‑the‑art technologies and playing a defining role in international competition. The development carried out by Ceres ZRt. creates new production capacities while also strengthens high value‑added food manufacturing based on domestic raw materials. Such investments contribute to preserving rural jobs and supporting the long‑term development of Hungarian agriculture.”
Dr. Boglárka Illés added that the development strengthens Hungary’s international economic position and sends a clear signal to global investors.
Installation of the first equipment is expected in 2027, with the facility poised to become one of the most modern toast bread plants in Central and Eastern Europe.
