Confectionary manufacturer Perfetti Van Melle has unveiled new paper bottle packaging set to roll out across its Mentos Pure Fresh Gum range.
Launching in 600 Co-op stores this month, its Cherry, Tropical and Fresh Mint flavours will be among the products undergoing a packaging revamp.
Also supported by a nationwide campaign printed on FSC certified materials, its sales will be further boosted with a Blis Geo targeting campaign which identifies consumers in proximity to stores that stock its paper bottles.
According to IRI, this innovation will reduce the plastic in Mentos Gum packaging by 93%, while this comes as part of Perfetti Van Melle’s wider sustainability commitments to avoid 5,000 tonnes of not recycle-ready plastic by 2025 and to provide 100% of consumer packs with disposal indicators by 2025.
“Perfetti Van Melle are continuously innovating, and to be the first in the gum industry to have a paper bottle is a step which we are extremely proud of,” Mentos Gum product manager, Kim McMahon said.
“The Mentos Gum Paper Bottle is launched hot on the heels of our recent switch to paper sticks in the original lollipop, our beloved Chupa Chups brand – a step that will eliminate around 5k metric tons p.a. of plastic globally over the next three years.”
McMahon added that the new packaging “contains the same great taste that customers know and love, but now they have a more sustainable way to say Yes To Fresh.”
