New call supports sustainable water management communities
The call for applications entitled “Supporting sustainable water management communities that improve water use efficiency” has been published with a budget of two billion forints, for which applications for support can be submitted from September 4, 2025 – announced József Viski, State Secretary responsible for agricultural and rural development support.
The Ministry of Agriculture continues to treat the spread of irrigated farming as a priority area, since safe production can basically only be carried out under irrigated conditions. The tender now being published is also related to this objective – added the State Secretary.
Cooperation between farmers plays a key role in agricultural production, and this is also the case with irrigated farming. The farmers organized into communities were also supported by the Ministry of Agriculture within the framework of the Rural Development Program of the previous period, as a result of which more than 130 irrigation communities received non-refundable support in the amount of approximately 10 billion forints.
The call for proposals, now announced within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan, is a continuation of this previous call for proposals, implemented with European Union co-financing. The call aims to encourage farmers to jointly create and operate the infrastructure necessary for irrigation in order to use the available water resources more efficiently – highlighted József Viski.
The amount of support that can be obtained based on the call for proposals published with a budget of 2 billion forints can be a maximum of 75 million forints, which can be used for the preparation of new irrigation investments or for the operation of existing irrigation systems.
The State Secretary also reminded that calls for proposals for irrigation development investments announced under the CAP Strategic Plan will be available again in the autumn. Recognized sustainable water management communities can also apply for these with an increased support intensity of 65 percent.
Information about the call for proposals can be found on the kap.gov.hu website, where information about the support cycle until 2027 under the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan is also provided.
