A new office responsible for food safety and retail trade can be established under the leadership of Márton Nagy
A new top organization called the National Trade Office could be created, which would come under the Ministry of National Economy headed by Márton Nagy, Népszava reported.
Consumer protection control, trade policy, and food safety would be transferred here, among other things, from the government offices under the Prime Minister’s Office. According to the paper, no final decision has yet been made on the latter, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Prime Minister’s Office, which is jointly responsible for the area, are fighting against it because, in addition to the loss of prestige, they would lose billions in revenue.
It is understood that the major reorganization may begin as early as January. It is not known exactly where the food safety laboratory network operated by Nébih will end up.
The new office can start as early as September.
