Knowledge leads to career – SPAR at the forefront of dual training
For years, SPAR has been an active supporter of the largest and most prestigious event in Hungarian vocational training, the Szakma Sztár Festival, which will be organized by the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry between April 28 and 29, 2025. At the event, SPAR is preparing interactive programs and educational activities for young people who are about to choose a career, to introduce them to the commercial career path.
SPAR Hungary is one of the largest domestic employers, employing nearly 14 thousand employees. The company not only plays a key role in providing stable jobs, but is also at the forefront of developing the domestic labor market and training future professionals.
First steps into the profession – dual vocational training at SPAR
SPAR welcomes students in its 240 stores nationwide, as well as its logistics centers in Bicske and Üllő, and the Regnum Meat Plant, as part of dual vocational training. It currently has partnerships with 88 vocational schools and technical colleges, with the majority of students coming from rural institutions. SPAR provides internships in the trade sales, retail and web store technician, logistics technician, as well as butcher and meat product preparation professions for more than 500 students per year. Nothing proves the effectiveness of practical education better than the fact that students who complete internships at SPAR regularly represent the company in the finals of the country’s most prestigious competition, more than once on the top step of the podium. In 2024, two of our finalists took part in the competition, who eventually won 1st and 3rd place, and in 2023, our finalist student came in 3rd place.
University knowledge, real experience – dual higher education program
SPAR has been accepting dual students from bachelor’s and master’s programs of higher education institutions since 2015. The goal of the program is for students to get acquainted with the company’s operations in a real work environment within the framework of a pre-planned rotation. During the internship, they gain valuable professional experience, and many continue their careers as full-time employees at SPAR.
Many dual students have found their place at SPAR in various fields. Most of them graduate in economic fields, such as commerce and marketing, and business and management. These students can find employment in various departments of the company, where they can use their acquired knowledge and skills. They have the opportunity to find their first full-time job in a wide range of positions – without claiming to be complete – in departments such as central sales, purchasing, marketing, recruitment, IT, or finance. In addition, SPAR also graduates food engineering students, who can find employment in food production plants or in areas dealing with food quality. Food engineering students work in the company’s quality and environmental management departments, where they deal with ensuring and developing the quality of products. So far, 85 students have participated in the program, and currently 24 active dual students work at the company.
