Transparent contactless payment is popular in the vending market as well
The turnover is increasing and purchase becomes transparent at locations where contactless payment is accepted. According to András Méth, head of commerce development at Mastercard, the choice of products and the number of machines are both increasing at unattended points of sale.
– In May Mastercard launched a pilot project with the Hungarian Vending Machines Association (MIÁSZ), within the framework of which 20 vending machines were equipped with contactless payment function. What comes next?
– MIÁSZ is our professional partner in our efforts to make contactless payment accessible to those who buy from vending machines. We work with more partners on more platforms to promote easy, transparent contactless payment that also increases turnover.
– To what extent does turnover increase thanks to contactless payment?
– This proportion is quite variable. Our experience shows that the environment where the machine is placed also plays a major role. For example – according to MIÁSZ’s research – in an office environment the increase can be up to 100 percent.
– Mastercard has done a survey about unattended points of sale and consumer habits. What are the key findings of this study?
– Our research shows that the majority of customers experience difficulties when paying with cash at vending machines. We also learned that consumers are open to buying more products other than hot beverages at unattended points of sale.
– What will be the new locations where consumers can use contactless payment in the future?
– The number of vending machines in Hungary might increase. We hope that more and more of these will be equipped with bank card payment function. We provide the technology so that contactless payment can spread increasingly at gas stations and car washes as well.
