Table wheat prices remain below last year’s level
According to the December forecast of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), the world could harvest 838 million tons of wheat in the 2025/2026 marketing year, 5 percent more than the previous season. The expected consumption is 823 million tons (+1.5 percent).

The crop could be traded at 219 million tons (+7 percent), and by the end of the 2025/2026 marketing year, 275 million tons (+6 percent) of wheat could remain in storage. According to the USDA, Russia’s wheat production increased by 7 percent compared to the previous year to 87.5 million tons in the 2025/2026 season, with exports likely to reach 44 million tons (+2 percent). In Ukraine, 2 percent less (23 million tons) of crops were stored, of which 14.5 million tons (–8 percent) will be exported. In the USA, a slightly higher quantity of 54 million tons of wheat was harvested this year than a year earlier, of which 24.5 million tons can be shipped to foreign markets. In Canada, USDA analysts calculate a wheat harvest of almost 40 million tons, 11 percent higher than in 2024/2025, in the current economic year, and its exports may decrease to 28 million tons (–2 percent). In Australia, output may increase by about 3 million tons to 37 million tons, of which 27 million tons (+27 percent) can be exported. In addition to Brazil’s wheat harvest of 7.7 million tons (–2 percent), imports of 7.5 million tons of wheat (+3 percent) are projected. Argentina may harvest 24 million tons (+30 percent) of the crop in the 2025/2026 season, and 14.5 million tons (+39 percent) may be delivered to the international market.
According to AKI PÁIR data, in Hungary, table wheat was traded at an average producer price of 70.8 thousand forints/ton excluding VAT and transport costs in the first week of December
This price level was 14 percent lower than a year earlier. On the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME/CBOT), the December wheat quotation fluctuated in the range of 195–199 dollars/ton between December 1 and 12. At the same time, the March 2026 stock exchange settlement price of the crop on the Paris Mercantile Exchange (Euronext/MATIF) was between 189–191 euros/ton.
