Producer prices of slaughter cattle continue to rise
According to AKI slaughter statistics, in 2024, cattle slaughter in live weight decreased by 4 percent compared to the previous year. The slaughter of cows, which account for more than two-thirds of all slaughter, was 7.3 percent less, that of heifers by 17.2 percent, while that of bulls increased by 17.5 percent.
In the European Union, the slaughterhouse entry price of a young bull of the “R3” commercial class was 5.56 euros/kilogram of cold carcass weight in the 1st–4th week of 2025, which represents an 11.4 percent increase compared to the previous year. The price of a cow “O3” increased by 14.3 percent, and the price of a heifer “R3” by 8.6 percent during the period under review. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of slaughter cattle continued to rise at the beginning of this year: the producer price of a young bull was 1,604 forints/kilogram of carcass warm weight, the price of a slaughter heifer was 1,199 forints/kilogram and the price of a slaughter cow was 1,253 forints/kilogram in the 1st–4th week of 2025.
