The head of the ministry warned that a global food crisis could develop if Ukrainian grain could not be delivered to the world market. According to István Nagy, it is necessary to start the negotiations immediately so that the ships carrying grain can leave the Black Sea ports. He explained that in the current situation, the role of overland routes will increase in value. In order to ensure a safe food supply, it is necessary to guarantee the continuity of Ukraine’s grain exports, which requires fast and efficient transport routes. He pointed out that the Russian-Ukrainian war threatens global food security, so it is the joint responsibility of Hungary and the countries of the region to provide assistance. An important element of this is the operation of the Solidarity Corridors, thanks to which our imports of grain and oilseeds from Ukraine have increased significantly, another priority is the expansion of transport capacities. As an example, István Nagy mentioned that the amount of grain and sunflowers coming from Ukraine to our country via Eperjeské and Záhony increased from a couple of ten thousand tons a month to two hundred thousand.
The minister also touched on the fact that Hungary has carried out numerous railway infrastructure developments in the past period, just think of the investment realized at Fényeslitké. In addition, however, there is still a need to increase transshipment capacities and implement new developments in the area of the Hungarian-Ukrainian railway border section. – Our country is interested in ending the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict as soon as possible, in peace, which is also the basis of safe food for the world – emphasized the head of the ministry.
