Bread may become even more expensive
The Hungarian government’s plans to expand the manufacturing industry are only on the drawing board, while the bread business, which is the link between agriculture, its retail trade and the energy industry, is showing worrying signs. According to the latest data, the price of edible wheat exceeded last year’s record level, which also exerts considerable pressure on the price of bread.
According to the Agrárközgazdasági Intézet (AKI), the price of edible wheat reached HUF 72.9 thousand per ton, which is 5% higher compared to the same period of the previous year. On the other hand, the prices of fodder wheat and fodder corn decreased. The rise in world prices, triggered by lower crop expectations in Russia, is further exacerbating the situation.
In recent months, the price of white bread fluctuated between HUF 871 and 877, while the price of semi-brown bread showed a slight increase. The price of fine flour is also stagnant.
