A historical journey in the footsteps of Hungarian wine – The Rubicon and MKIK lecture series continues in Eger
On May 15, the joint program series of the Rubicon Institute and the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will continue in Eger, evoking outstanding chapters in Hungarian economic history. The lecture and roundtable discussion titled “Stories of Hungarian Wine – From the Favorite of Kings to Bull’s Blood” will explore the rich past of Hungarian wine production this time.
The venue of the event is the Juhász Brothers Winery (Eger, Kőlyuki Pincesor 35.), where visitors are welcome from 6 p.m. The event will be opened by Dr. Péter Bánhidy, President of the Heves County Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The discussion will feature historian Balázs Nagy, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Medieval History at ELTE BTK, and winemaker Ádám Juhász, owner of JUHÁSZVIN Kft. The discussion will be moderated by Péter Antalffy, a scientific associate at the Rubicon Institute.
Participants will be able to find out, among other things, what kind of wines Hungarians drank in the past, how the structure of historical wine regions developed, how history – such as the phylloxera epidemic or the world wars – influenced domestic wine production, and whether the legend about the invention of aszú is true.
Participation in the event is free, but requires prior registration. You can register by 12:00 on May 16, 2025 at timea.csorba@brdcomm.hu. The organizers are also happy to provide assistance with interview preparation.
