Historical subsidies help agriculture
Last year, we set a new record, as the amount of agricultural subsidies successfully applied for and paid out exceeded HUF 1,300 billion in total – Minister of Agriculture István Nagy announced on Thursday in Vasszécseny, at the award ceremony of the Vas county wheat and soybean production competition.
At the event, the head of the ministry drew attention to the fact that last year, farmers harvested a total of 177,000 tons of soybeans from 58,000 hectares. Of this, a crop of 34,000 tons was produced from an area of almost 10,000 hectares in the county of Vas. About 60,000 to 70,000 tons of domestic soy is processed domestically, a significant part of which leaves the country. We export 90,000 to 100,000 tons of soybeans in unprocessed form.
Regarding the export activity, István Nagy said that a significant share of our exports is still provided by cereals
He emphasized that last year we harvested a total of 5.93 million tons of wheat from 1 million 54 thousand hectares with a yield of 5.63 tons per hectare. In 2023, a wheat crop of 307,000 tons was produced in Vas county from an area of 46,000 hectares, with a yield of 6.7 tons per hectare, a record among counties at the domestic level.
The Minister of Agriculture emphasized that the historic subsidies also help us to achieve our long-term goals
We are working so that by 2030 the productivity of agriculture will increase to one and a half times, the added value will increase to two times, and exports will increase by 50 percent to 15 billion euros. The Hungarian Strategic Plan also contributes to ensuring the possibility of further development for all players in agriculture. We are convinced that everyone can be a winner of the new agricultural support system, added the minister.
