The popularity of chocolate Santas remains unbroken
Tradition and innovation are both present in the Santa Claus Day and Christmas candy markets. While the older generation is looking for nostalgic flavors, the young are increasingly open to new things. The popularity of the Santa Claus figure made of milk chocolate remains unbroken, but manufacturers have prepared a number of new products for the holiday season this year.
In the weeks before December 6, almost 8-9 million chocolate Santas are sold in our country, while the number of candy Advent calendars sold reaches 350 thousand. According to the overview prepared by the National Chamber of Agriculture and the Association of Hungarian Confectionery Manufacturers, the search for tradition and new things is also typical during the holiday season.
The older generation prefers the flavors of their childhood, so they look for nostalgic flavors in stores. For example, the hollow version of chocolate Santa Claus made of milk chocolate continues to be the best-selling in the pre-holiday period. Innovative sweets, characterized by special flavor combinations or modern techniques, provide an attractive alternative primarily for the younger, more experimental generation. However, experience shows that the majority of customers are open to both traditional and new flavors.
The trend that has emerged in recent years continues this year, with more and more manufacturers producing sugar-free or low-sugar sweets, so that not only people with diabetes but also consumers on a diet for other reasons do not have to give up sweets. Environmental awareness is also increasingly present in the sector, with many brands switching to more environmentally friendly packaging, such as biodegradable or compostable materials.
