Scots drink more than the English
In Scotland, the consumption of spirits broke all previous records and was significantly higher than the corresponding figures for England and Wales – told the UK Health authorities in their latest report. The Scottish Government – as the first European region – wants to declare war on alcoholism with the minimum price fixing of spirits.
Severe alcoholism causes a lot of sickness, death, and a large public health costs, so in the United Kingdom detailed datas of alcohol sales are available from 1994. According to the recently published figures; last year 23 percent more per capita liquor sold in Scotland than in England and Wales. Such difference have never occured during the 17 years of the register. On average, each adult drank 2.2 liters of pure alcohol more in Scotland than in England – reports MTI.
