We should process more milk into a more valuable dairy product
Cheese, butter, curd, sour cream are a much more valuable product than milk. Instead, we ship liquid milk out of the country to import processed products instead – agrarszektor.hu wrote. Now, however, the transpotrtation of goods have slowed down considerably. The solution is obvious, but it cannot be implemented overnight.
Last year in Hungary, according to the Milk Product Board and the KSH, farmers produced 1.9 million tons of milk, of which 1.5 million tons were bought in Hungary. In other words, almost 400,000 tonnes had to leave the country, mainly towards Italy. Exactly 336,000 tons of liquid milk have been shipped, which should now be utilized domestically.
