At the forefront of the domestic food industry for more than half a century
The future of the food industry is shaped by young professionals who respect traditions and boldly embrace the opportunities offered by new technologies, said András Tállai, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, at the graduation ceremony of the Institute of Food Science and Technology of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences in Budapest.
András Tállai emphasized that food safety and food quality are primarily areas belonging to agriculture, and are also of paramount importance for the operation of the economy, environmental protection, and social well-being. The State Secretary drew attention to the fact that MATE graduates can play a significant role in several sectors in the food industry and related areas. He mentioned precision agriculture and the development of agrotechnologies as examples.
András Tállai also spoke about how students from the Institute of Food Science of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences take an active role in the activities of the National Food Chain Safety Office every year. This year, 14 students joined the office for professional internships, eight of whom came from the institute.
He reminded that the Institute of Food Science and Technology is one of the leading domestic knowledge centers in the industry, which carries out educational and research activities related to the entire supply chain. It is the only higher education institution in the country whose training system covers the entire range of food engineering training and also has an independent doctoral program, he added. Ensuring a supply of food industry professionals, more than 11 thousand people have received their diplomas over the past 53 years.
