Lidl will sell more than 900 Hungarian products
By the end of 2014 Lidl will increase the proportion of their Hungarian products from 54 to 60 percent. Our magazine asked Jenő Grósz, Lidl Hungary’s chairman of the board of directors and head of purchasing Gergely Kovács about the details at a press conference in March 2013.
We learned that currently Lidl Hungary sells 810 Hungarian products and their plan is to add another 100 items to their product assortment. Some of these will replace foreign products, while the majority will contribute to making available a wider range of products to consumers. Mineral water, biscuits, meat products and wine are some of the categories with new additions. The only expectation from the new products is having quality assurance certifications. Partnerships will be established with the suppliers of successful products and Lidl will even support small suppliers in increasing their production capacities. Products that perform well will get a chance to appear in the Lidl stores of neighbouring countries. At the moment 106 products of 36 suppliers are sold in the Lid stored of 8 countries in the region, generating export revenue of HUF 8.4 billion last year. The new initiative isn’t part of any regional or international project, Lidl would simply like to support Hungary’s economy and Hungarian farmers with this step.
