More than 40 percent fewer tractors were purchased in 2023
Individual farms and cooperative enterprises bought HUF 288.4 billion worth of new agricultural machines and tools in 2023, which was 25 percent less than the turnover of a year earlier. In the same period, HUF 85.7 billion were spent on parts, which is a 6 percent increase compared to the base period.
Within the machine market, power machines were the dominant ones with a share of 58 percent, while work machines and other machines accounted for 42 percent of distribution. Within the total sales, tractors represented 32 percent, grain harvesters 14 percent.
The most important segment of the agricultural machinery market is the tractor
In 2023, 1,771 fewer, i.e., 2,425 new wheeled tractors, worth HUF 92 billion, were updated in 2023. Among them, the largest share was represented by the under 50 hp and the 101–140 hp light universal category with 24 and 20 percent, respectively. The demand for tractors under 260 HP fell significantly, while sales of tractors between 261 and 320 and over 320 HP increased by 2 and 7 percent, respectively.
Sales of self-propelled loaders in 2023 were 33 percent below the sales of the base period, which meant the sale of 450 loaders
Within this, there was still a significant demand for loaders with telescopic booms, while sales of articulated front loaders and skid steer skid steer loaders decreased. Compared to the 706 tractor-mounted front loaders sold in the base period, 472 owners were found last year, 62 percent of which were domestically produced. In 2023, the grain harvester market also shrank (by 26 percent), 299 new harvesters and threshers worth HUF 40 billion were added to farms, while in 2022 403 were sold worth HUF 50.5 billion.
