More than 30 tons of donations were collected in the Hungarian Red Cross and Auchan fundraising campaign
Almost 31 tons of donations were collected in the Christmas fundraising campaign of the Hungarian Red Cross and Auchan – the aid organization informed MTI on Wednesday.
The Hungarian Red Cross and Auchan organized the initiative called One Package of Love for the fifth time, in which volunteers and Red Cross employees received donations from customers in 24 Auchan stores across the country from the end of November to the beginning of December.
According to the statement, the The composition of the donations clearly shows the sensitivity and attention of the customers: 26.9 tons of non-perishable food, 2.1 tons of sweets, and 1.4 tons of toiletries and chemicals arrived at the collection points. This quantity allows for the assembly of approximately six thousand packages. The Red Cross members who assemble the packages are also paying special attention to the needs of customers following a special diet this year, they noted.
According to their testimony, there were donors who filled an entire shopping cart with donations, while others chose free foods specifically to support those following a special diet.
They mentioned that in addition to individual donors, corporate donations also arrived; contributing to the collection with pallets of products, further strengthening shared social responsibility.
During the fundraising, more than a thousand Red Cross volunteers and employees participated in the operation of the collection points, logistics and preparation of donations in collaboration with Auchan employees.
The announcement quotes István Kardos, Director General of the Hungarian Red Cross, who said: year after year, they experience what a strong community is formed around a good cause.
Behind the donations is attention and empathy, as well as the intention that no one should be left without support as the holidays approach. This collaboration has proven this year again: the power of helping is greatest in a community.
Ildikó Balázs, Auchan Retail Hungary’s Corporate Relations, Communications and ESG Director, said: their cooperation with the Hungarian Red Cross has been unbroken for five years, which has been strengthened in many common issues, from the Covid epidemic to humanitarian and natural disasters to everyday food rescue, and thanks to which they have been able to help those most in need together.
According to the information, the sorting and distribution of donations has already begun, and the Hungarian Red Cross will ensure through its county organizations that the packages reach those living in difficult circumstances before the holidays, for needy families, elderly people living alone and social institutions.
