More than 1 million guests arrived at Hungarian hotels
Hungarian tourism continued to strengthen in February 2025: more than 1 million guests were registered in domestic accommodation, which represents an increase of almost 14 percent compared to the same period of the previous year – the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) drew attention in its statement on Thursday.
Citing the latest statistical data, the NGM highlighted: guests spent more than 2.3 million guest nights in our country, which represents an increase of almost 4 percent.
The number of domestic guests increased by 5.4 percent to 485 thousand, while the number of foreign tourists increased by more than 22 percent to 536 thousand. The most dynamic growth was shown by Budapest and the Balaton region.
According to data from the Central Statistical Office and the National Tourism Data Service Center, 24 percent more tourists arrived in the capital than a year earlier.
Among the rural tourist regions, Lake Balaton attracted almost 10 percent more guests than in the second month of 2024. The growth is due not only to the nearly 22 percent increase in foreign interest, but also to the 7 percent increase in the number of domestic guests.
The Ministry of Tourism and Culture stated that the increase in guest traffic also had a positive impact on the revenues of accommodations: nearly 60 billion forints were generated nationwide, which represents a nearly 17 percent increase compared to the previous year. Within this, rural accommodations realized 33.8 billion forints in revenue, which reflects a 13.3 percent increase.
