More and cheaper pork in the world market
According to a USDA analysis published in January, US pork production in the 1st quarter of 2024 could increase by 1.4% compared to January-March 2023.

USDA data indicates that pork’s price was USD1.45/kg (cold carcass weight) in the US in December 2023, down 17% from a year earlier. Hungary’s live pig export dropped 6% (28,000 tonnes) in January-October 2023 compared to January-October 2022, while import increased by 16% to 64,000 tonnes, according to the Central Statistical Office (KSH).
The volume of pork sold in the international market decreased by almost 10% (120,000 tonnes), while its value increased by 11% over the period observed. The volume of pork import reduced by 13% (116,000 tonnes), but its value was 20% higher. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestically bred slaughter pigs, excluding VAT and transport costs, was HUF 861/kg (carcass hot weight) in December 2023, a 3.5% rise compared to the average price a year earlier. //
