Employment in the European Union increased to a fifteen year peak last year, and thirteen of the twenty-eight Member States have reached their national target for 2020 – according to the data of the EU Statistical Office (Eurostat) published on Thursday.
In the European Union, the employment rate for the population aged 20-64 has risen to 73.2 percent in 2018, the highest since 2005, when the value of the indicator stood at 67.8 percent.
A decade ago, in 2008, at the time of the global financial crisis, the employment rate stood at 70.2 percent, before declining to 68.4 percent by 2013, but rising steadily thereafter. (MTI)
