Almost 8 from 10 people choose contactless payment
According to a recent global consumer survey – conducted by Mastercard in 19 countries in the first quarter of 2020 – 79 percent of shoppers choose contactless payment; the main motivations are safety and hygiene. In February and March many countries introduced safety measures because of the coronavirus pandemic, which instigated the majority of consumers to turn to contactless payment solutions.
At a global level 46 percent of consumers switched to bank cards that make contactless payment possible. 82 percent of consumers reckon that contactless payment is more hygienic, plus it can make the checkout process ten times faster. Data by Mastercard reveals that in the first quarter of 2020 the number of contactless payment transactions jumped more than 40 percent at a global level.
