Myths about cholesterol
Hungary’s Comprehensive Health Screening Programme carried out nearly one hundred thousand free cholesterol measurements between 2010-2014 across the country: cholesterol levels above the limit were measured at 39 percent of the women and at 47 percent of the men.
In the early stage of high cholesterol there are no symptoms, but it can lead to serious disorders in the absence of prevention and treatment.
“Today, there is evidence that there is a strong correlation between the amount of atherosclerosis and the formation of fats in the blood. In some people there are a lot of cholesterol and triglycerides in their blood congenitally, in case of other people, the wrong eating habits lead to high blood fat content. With the change of lifestyle – and if necessary, with drug treatment – blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels can be normalized and thus the risks of coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction and sudden death will be reduced.
