Technological change is pulling the Hungarian tomato growing upwards
Although the growing area of the domestic greenhouse tomato was halved in the last ten years to 400 hectares, the crop yield has increased steadily: in the past year exceeded 110 thousand tonnes, was said at the professional event of the Árpád Agrár Zrt. és a Syngenta in Szentes. Despite strong imports there are reserves in the domestic sector – professionals told.
Antal Gyula, Syngenta’s vegetable campaign manager explained that the growing area of the domestic greenhouse tomato decreased significantly. While in 2002, it was produced on 950 hectares, now it is about 400 hectares. The yield, however, has been growing, due to the rising level of technology.
