Energy drinks kept flying high last year
While value sales of the 90 food categories measured by Nielsen grew by 2 percent on average, energy drinks skyrocketed with 18 percent in December 2008-November 2009. The annual market went above HUF 14 billion and volume sales expanded by 30 percent. 400 m² or smaller stores improved their market share from 29 to 34 percent. The volume share of private labels decreased by 40 percent to 35 (measured in the October-November period). In the same period, one litre cost HUF 641 – down from HUF 721 a year earlier. Sports drink sales expanded by 12 percent in value, nearing HUF 450 million.
