The number of tourists in the Czech Republic grew moderately last year, but was only half that of 2019
Last year, 11.4 million tourists stayed in commercial accommodation in the Czech Republic, up 5.2 percent from 2020, but only half as many as in 2019, the Czech Statistical Office announced in Prague on Wednesday.
The years 2020 and 2021 were strongly affected by the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting precautions and restrictions. Thus, the 2021 figure corresponds to only 52 percent of the year before the 2019 pandemic. There is still a shortage of foreign tourists in the Czech Republic, whose return takes longer, statisticians have pointed out. (Kokes János, MTI)
