Long-term cooperation for innovative and sustainable fisheries management

The Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences (MATE) and the Hungarian National Fishing Association (MOHOSZ) held an important senior management meeting, one of the main topics of which was the planned renewal and strengthening of the cooperation agreement concluded in 2015 between the legal predecessor Szent István University and MOHOSZ.

In the field of education and training, the parties discussed the tasks of the professional further training for fishing guides, which will start in the spring of 2024 and is managed by MATE and the University of Debrecen, as well as discussing the establishment and launch of a middle-level fishing specialist training course, at the same time examining the connections with the current pond management courses. The review of the possible participation and role of MATE in the implementation of the National Fishing Tourism Strategy, the jointly supported expansion of the responsibilities of the department based in Agárd, and the rational, coordinated use of MAHOP Plusz resources were discussed.

Also included among the topics were the MOHOSZ national bream program, monitoring of the Balaton paving, water replenishment of Lake Velence, the creation of an automated water quality monitoring system, the accredited certification of feed materials and lures, the elaboration of the criteria system for the “Fish Friendly” trademark/logo, connected in the process

within the framework of existing fish health research, the possibilities of targeted intake of probiotics / antibiotics / other drugs, e.g. with the help of boilers, as well as the further development of the breeding and rearing technologies of the previously jointly defined “standard” and “preferred” indigenous fish species.  In the final part of the discussion, the events of common interest and the planned joint tenders were also discussed. At the meeting Dr. Rector Csaba Gyuricza, dr. Balázs Kriszt, director of the MATE Aquaculture and Environmental Safety Institute, dr. Member of Parliament Lajos Szűcs, president of the Hungarian National Fishing Association, and dr. István Dérer, Director General of MOHOSZ National Fishing Organization Service Center, participated.
