Lidl’s private label bicycle helmet is a success
The German Automobile Club (ADAC) and Stiftung Warentest tested 14 bicycle helmets, taking into account safety, comfort, handling and pollutant content. Prices ranged from €15 to €149, and it was found that helmets designed for e-bikes did not offer better protection than models made for conventional bikes.
The first place winner was the Uvex Urban Planet LED helmet, which provided outstanding protection and handling and did not contain harmful substances. Alpina Gent MIPS and Limar Torino helmets shared second place.
Surprisingly, Lidl’s Crivit own-brand helmet also performed well in the test, outperforming several branded products. This helmet finished in the middle, but it was among the options that provide good protection, and it came in eighth compared to the price of the Uvex product.
However, there were disappointments during the test. An e-bike helmet called the Casco E.Motion 2 was eliminated, despite being more expensive than the winner. This helmet did not meet safety standards as testers were unable to remove the helmet during testing.
