Record growth for UK's discount retailers
According to TNS Worldpanel, discount retailers now account for 5.9pc of all grocery spending in Britain.
Aldi
grew its market share by 19.5pc to 2.9pc over the period, while
Lidl's share rose by 14.3pc to 2.4pc. Over the period, the total
grocery market grew by 7pc, fuelled by food price inflation.
According to TNS, food price inflation in the period was 5.8pc.
Asda
and Wm Morrison grew their shares by 9pc, Tesco grew its share by 7pc
and J Sainsbury grew by 6pc.
