András Tállai: The food industry has been able to move forward every year except 2023
The food industry has been able to advance every year except 2023, but last year it returned to the growth path; while in 2024 the Hungarian GDP grew by 0.5 percent, the production performance of the food industry grew by 3.8 percent, the State Secretary for the Food Industry and Agricultural Vocational Training of the Ministry of Agriculture said on the M1 current affairs channel on Thursday.
András Tállai said that the food industry is of strategic importance, for which the government has provided approximately 800 billion forints of development funds in the past 10 years.
According to the State Secretary, it is important that the sector can remain competitive at the international level – in terms of quality and prices – and this requires continuous modernization.
The government also recognized this, so in 2023 it decided to supplement the 600 billion forints of EU funds with 2,300 billion forints, so that 2,900 billion forints will be invested in the food sector by 2027.
The State Secretary highlighted in the Kossuth Radio program Good morning, Hungary! that the government’s goal is to put food on the tables of Hungarian families, preferably made from Hungarian ingredients, produced in Hungary, that serves people in the right quality and at the right price, while at the same time the economic productivity of the sector is also important.
