Retail wings in Poland
January Retail Sales Up From 2007 Polish retail sales in January rose a strong 20.9% year-on-year, but fell 18.7% when compared to December 2007.
According to figures from the national
statistics office GUS, the results come after a 12.4% year-on-year
rise in sales in December. In real terms, January retail sales rose
15.9% year-on-year, and fell 18.8% month-on-month.
Sales of food,
beverages and tobacco rose 12.5% compared to Jan 2008, but fell 25%
month-on-month. Sales of cosmetics and medicines rose 21.9%
year-on-year, and were down 17.5% month-on-month; while sales of
non-food products rose 26.9% year-on-year and dropped 23%
month-on-month.
