According to Anna Antalné Weibert, the head of Metro’s information management department, information security is one of the most important issues in her work – and at the same time ensuring it is also one of the most difficult tasks. Another key area for the company at the moment is electronic invoice management: Metro’s objective is to receive and issue invoices only electronically. She thinks that those working at the IT department need to understand the diverse demands of various company divisions, so that they can provide the right solutions swiftly. IT’s role is to support the daily operation of the company – if possible in a proactive fashion. Metro keeps implementing IT development projects and installing new systems. Virtualisation is one of the latest trends but they also focus on new solutions in user identification.
