Galaxy Játékáruház Kft. has accumulated a serious tax debt
Galaxy Játékáruház Kft. has been added to the list of companies with a tax debt of over 100 million forints for at least 180 days by the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV). According to data updated by the tax authority at the end of December, the toy retailer is struggling with serious financial problems, as it was not yet on this list at the end of September.
Galaxy Játékáruház was previously a significant player in the Hungarian toy market. In addition to four shopping centers in Budapest, it also operated stores in several rural cities – in Győr, Érd, Békéscsaba, Miskolc and Dunakeszi. However, most of the stores suddenly closed last year, and currently only their single unit is operating in the Westend Shopping Center. Their web store has also been out of service since May 2024, and instead, visitors are only greeted with a message saying “we are closed for technical reasons”.
The exact amount and reason for the company’s tax debt are still unknown, and the company has not responded to questions on the subject. Previously, rumors circulated that Galaxy employed undeclared employees, but they were not on the NAV list. The tax authority ordered enforcement against the company in June last year, and the company has not submitted a report for 2023.
Galaxy Játékáruház has been a significant player in the domestic game market since 2017, achieving billions in sales and a few tens of millions of forints in profit year after year. That is why the tax debt exceeding 100 million forints is particularly interesting, which may indicate serious management problems. However, the company is not currently in liquidation.
