A campaign to promote french fries has started in Belgium
Local NGOs in Belgium have launched a campaign to boost the consumption the country’s symbolic french fries in order to save some 750,000 tonnes of potatoes that are at risk of being thrown away.
Romain Cools, secretary general of Belgian potato industry body Belgapom, told CNBC potato producers faced a long-term crisis.
The significant surplus of potatoes was driven by a fall in demand, caused by emergency measures ordered by the Belgian government in mid-March to close restaurants, bars and canteens. (MTI)
