Magazine: Street food
Why is street food so popular and how can this culinary style develop so fast? The answer is simple: because it perfectly harmonises with the majority of 21st-century eating trends – diversity, healthy choices, national specialties, use of regional products, etc. What is more, street food perfectly matches with today’s rapid pace of life. Street food has become so trendy that the style is also practiced in homes and street food cookbooks are published. From an enterprise’s perspective it is important that a street food business takes less money to start and turnover is less prone to fluctuation.
Street food-wise Hungary is a special place, because this culinary style is positioned higher than in other countries. The reason of this is that famous Hungarian chefs like to try their hand at street food for various reasons. Another special Hungarian characteristic is that it is going to be harder for street food to compete with traditional restaurants than before, because most forms of this style don’t benefit from the 5-percent VAT on restaurant services. It is practically impossible to compare the various types of street food joints. Several styles exist in Hungary, let’s list some of the characteristic key terms: international cuisine; hamburger and chicken; Asia, barbecue; meatballs, street food ‘courts’, food truck.. //
