Strategic cooperation for responsible pharmaceutical communication

A strategic cooperation agreement has been signed between the Self-Regulatory Advertising Board (ÖRT) and the Hungarian Association for the Protection of the Interests of Generic Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Distributors. The aim of the partnership is to strengthen the ethical, legally compliant and professionally sound practice of pharmaceutical advertisements and pharmaceutical communications in one of the most sensitive and largest advertising spending generating industries.

The cooperation is based on the provisions of Act XCVIII of 2006 on the safe and economical supply of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. The agreement covers the advertising of products falling under the scope of the Act on the Promotion of Medicinal Products (Gyftv.), with particular regard to responsible, transparent and professionally based communication. The agreement stipulates that the two organizations will work together as professional partners in supporting ethical pharmaceutical communication, in the uniform assessment of complaints and in the development of self-regulatory practice.

The aim of the Generics Association is for its members to operate on the basis of the Code of Ethics for Pharmaceutical Communication, in the spirit of the Hungarian Code of Advertising Ethics, and to rely on the professional experience of ÖRT during their advertising practice. ÖRT is an independent professional forum for ethical advertising, which aims to enforce advertising ethics standards in addition to legislation, and to strengthen consumer trust and professional credibility.

The two organizations will make the agreement available to the public and will jointly evaluate the experiences of the cooperation annually. The initiative contributes to the transparent, responsible and self-regulatory development of Hungarian pharmaceutical communication.
