Pet food sales showing steady development
Retail trade of pet foods amounted to approximately HUF 35 billion and can expand further. Retail sales grew by 2-3 per cent in the October 2005–September 2006 period compared to the preceding period. The dog-cat ratio, and the dry-wet ratio has hardly changed. Among stores, the 401–2500 square meter type has notably improved its position at the expense of hyper markets and traditional stores below the 200 square meters size. Average consumer prices showed stagnation with the exception of wet cat food. The market share of private labels has been high in this category for a long time and showed further increase for both dog and cat foods in the above period.
