Public sentiment is stable in May
According to Nielsen market research company's monthly survey, the consumer confidence index in May stabilized on 40 points, on the same value as it was in April and 3 points above the March value.
The index shows the 18-59 years old population's shopping habits, domestic job opportunities and personal financial situation. Eleven percent of the asked believes that the current period is convenient- taking into account the personal situation and the prices – for the purchase. Otherwise 40 percent takes the situation bad, and in the opinion of a further 47 percent the situation is not too good. Seven percent believe that their personal financial situation will be good in the next 12 months. Fourty-six percent believe that their personal finacial situation will be bad bad, while 44 percent believes in not too good financial situation. Only 4 percent thinks that the domestic job opportunities are good. Sixty-two percent consider the prospects bad, 33 percent consider not very good. The Nielsen also assess monthly basis that which daily consumption products people buys less than 3 months earlier. In May about one-third of the respondents mentioned chocolate, alcoholic beverages and salty snacks. Most people change to cheaper brands mostly in products like salt snacks, soda, juice, soft drinks. Less people changed to cheaper brand at cigarettes (26 percent), shampool, tea, and milk (27-27 percent).
