DélKerTÉSZ producer cooperative closed a stable year
DélKerTÉSZ, which brings together 450 producers from Szentes, closed a stable year despite lower producer prices. The cooperative’s members, who mainly grow tomatoes and peppers, sold 53.5 thousand tons of vegetables in the first three quarters, which is an increase of 700 tons on an annual basis, and 24.4 thousand tons of fresh market products accounted for the sold quantity – the cooperative told MTI on Tuesday.
In the examined period, the cooperative’s sales revenue increased by 260 million forints, to nearly 16.5 billion forints, within which exports amounted to 2.5 billion forints, which exceeds the result of the base period by 25 million forints. According to the announcement, the produced quantity and producer price in the first half of this year fell short of last year, but the favorable weather conditions of the autumn period boosted the results. They announced that producer prices for peppers and tomatoes decreased by 5 percent due to the base effect, but in some product categories the decline was 33 percent, while in the case of hot peppers, a 15 percent increase was measured due to strong foreign demand. The increase in logistics and packaging capacities played a key role in serving producers, as did the logistics hall in Szentes, which was completed at a cost of 3 billion forints. The announcement quotes President Sándor Nagypéter, who said that the proportion of black trade in free market trade is high and there is significant import pressure, therefore, instead of reducing the 27 percent VAT, they propose the introduction of a reverse VAT in the long term, similar to that for grain products. The measure, which requires EU approval, could reduce the difference between import and Hungarian product prices.
Sándor Nagypéter also said that the extension and extension of the moratorium on imports of peppers and tomatoes could lead to an increase in vegetable consumption.
Regarding the prospects for next year, he said that DélKertÉSZ producers are “strong” on Hungarian and foreign markets, especially in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and that they plan to further increase exports to Germany, Bulgaria and Romania. The most popular products are white and hot peppers, as well as cluster tomatoes. He noted that next year they would boost exports by building new greenhouses and foil blocks with EU support.
